>> classes throughout new town were canceled today. the other schools are set to reopen tomorrow. the school district plans to send surviving students to a middle school in another county. no word as to when those students will start classes again. a tragedy has prompted school leaders across the nation to take a closer look at the security procedures. the baltimore county school -- superintendent echoed a lot of what people are thinking today. >> making sure we assessed every single individual school crisis plan. to make sure principles

renee is a proud mother of two young children who attend howard county public schools. she is concerned for their safety when they stepped into classrooms. it is an understandable response. >> something needs to be done. i hate to think of schools becoming a lock down, but i do not know. i do not know what measures need to be taking place, but i knew -- but i know something needs to be done. >> the mass killing of such young children prompted the formation of the task force. >> we will take a look at what we are doing very well and what we are doing better. the security of buildings and facilities to the broader security issues. >> the task force will focus on how parents, teachers, and staff can better identify students with health is used -- issues. >> there are common traits. one of them is people say, she was acting a little odd.

a man described as a good samaritan is dead tonight as he reported the came to the aid. 54-year-old was on the shoulder this morning helping a driver change a tire. investigators say another driver coming off the southbound ramp lost control and hit scott, who died on the scene. >> it is one of those crashes where investigators are not sure really what happened. how did the car hit this vehicle that was parked at a safe distance so far off the road? >> a technician was also injured. he is in stable condition.

under a quarter mile at times. the good news is it is mid december and all the moisture is falling above freezing. 52 downtown. 51 right now. temperatures will not cool off in the morning. maybe even rising a few more degrees overnight. the winds are beginning to shift to the south. a few showers. unseasonably warm tonight. the moisture will be pushed out through this front. a dreary start. behind it, westerly winds, high pressure will build in, it will be a breezy afternoon and we may see some shun china -- sunshine. in the western maryland mountains, the rain changes to snow showers. an inch or two is possible. not that chilly here.
